BASIC AGREEMENT

  • The Executive Committee can now share the Basic Agreement Proposal with potential signatories and begin negotiating. We expect potential signatories to have comments on the agreement and we anticipate a back and forth negotiation and modifications made to the Basic Agreement Proposal before anyone signs. Once negotiations have concluded, we will bring the Basic Agreement Proposal, with any modifications, back to the Producers Union’s Professional Members for a vote to ratify the Agreement.

  • We have gotten further in the process of forming a producers union than any producers that have come before us. We are in uncharted territory, therefore it’s too early to predict how long the signatory process will take, as we have to approach each company individually. As we all know, negotiations can take time. It is our job to be persistent to make it happen.

  • Even though the Basic Agreement was approved, the Basic Agreement will not be enforced until we have signatories and the Producers Union Membership has voted to ratify the Agreement. However, just because the Basic Agreement isn’t enforceable yet, we encourage you to use the terms of the Basic Agreement when negotiating producing agreements on your films.

In May of 2022, the Producers Union’s Professional Membership voted to approve the Basic Agreement Proposal.
